AN INMATE was hospitalized after he drank muriatic acid in his detention cell in the Pinamungajan Police Station in southwest Cebu.
He was found unconscious in the toilet by two cellmates .
Muriatic acid is a strong household chemical used to clean the toilet, tiles and floors.
The inmate was never visited by family or friends since his arrest last Sept. 6 in relation to a stabbing incident in barangay Butong, said PO2 Alberto Vibas of the Pinamungajan police.
Cebu Daily News does not report the names of persons who attempt suicide and survive.
Before the incident last Thursday night, the man tried to escape by destroying the ceiling of his cell but his attempt was foiled. He then went to the comfort room. The unnamed inmate was taken to a hospital in Cebu City for treatment.
