KINTARO “King” Miyagi, a former standout of the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC), has been named to the Philippine Under 19, who will be seeing action in the qualifying stage of the 2016 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Under-19 Championship.

The team will be leaving for Laos on Sept. 30 for the qualifying stage set October 2.

Miyagi, 17, now plays as a forward for the Fighting Maroons of the University of the Philippines (UP) where he is taking up Bachelor of Physical Education.

Miyagi was initially excluded from the lineup of the national team that was formed last August for the 2015 Asean Football Federation (AFF) U-19 Youth Championships.

The team, however, tweaked its lineup and brought Miyagi in.  Miyagi suited up for the under-13 Little Azkals line-up in 2011-2012.

Miyagi was one of the injured players in last year’s controversial brawl between SHS-AdC’s and Alcoy FC in the under-18 division of Aboitiz Football Cup.

Another Cebuano, Jordan Blair Jarvis, will join Miyagi in the team.  Although based in Hong Kong, Jarvis is still eligible to play for the U19 national team.

His mother Nieve Daydora Jarvis is a native of Poro, Camotes Island, Cebu who got married to an Australian. Jarvis plays as a midfielder for the YMCA Hong Kong Christian College.

The national team has been training at the Rizal Memorial Stadium. It will play in Group J along with power houses Japan, Australia and host country Laos.
