Kenyan runners dominated the first-ever Saint Paul Learning Center (SPLC) Ruby-Jubilee Run yesterday in Sumilon Road at the Cebu Business Park.
Around 600 runners, including SPLC students and their parents, alumni and competitive runners, took part in the event.
With the success of the race, plans are underway to make the footrace an annual affair.
“We wanted to make this an annual event but it’s not that easy to organize a running event. Our initial plan is to have this every 10 years but why not make it an annual event, so let’s see what the school administration is planning,” said Lenny Nengasca, who is an SPLC official.
The event’s main objective is to add more spice to the school’s 40th anniversary celebration as well as to raise funds to support the school’s charity projects.
Nengasca said they were able to reach their target number of participants.
Kenyan Abraham Kilima topped the 10k men’s race with a time of 34 minutes and 13 seconds, while Joseph Murari ruled the 5k men’s contest with 16:20.
Kilima was closely followed by fellow Kenyan Douglas Mwiti, who timed 34:20. Ian Refuela completed the top three in the division with 36:32.
Michael Largo came in second behind Murari with a time of 16:53 and John Darryl Maños finished third with 17:03.
In the 10k distaff side, Lovely Andrin emerged the fastest runner with 46:15. She was followed by Sara Lee Cuizon with 46:28 and Cez Atup third with 1:24.15.
In the 5k female race, Mary Joy Loberanis placed first with 19:00.34 followed by Catherine and Angeline Yu with 22:54 and 23:40, respectively.
