SOME OF the country’s top tennis enthusiasts take center stage as they vie for the coveted championship in the CitiGreen Tennis Cup today (Thursday) at the CitiGreen Resort in Punta Princesa, Cebu City.
With the theme, “Experience The Difference”, the four-day competition aims to promote the sport not only as a means of healthy recreation but also as an avenue for physical fitness in all levels of interest and play.
Headlining the field of stars in the men’s open division are Graeme Foster, Ken Salimbangon and former age groupers Israel Abarquez, Bernardine Niño Siso.
Israel Abarquez is fresh off from winning the Iligan City Men’s open the title. He was ranked last year by the Philippine Tennis Association (Philta) as the 20th best tennis player in the country and is one of the favorites to win the men’s trophy.
Cesafi tennis gold medalists Kezia Pilapil, Shayne Villareal, and Elizabeth Abarquez are some of the familiar faces who are expected to duke it out for the championship in the women’s side.
The tournament will also feature talents from neighboring provinces of Bohol, Leyte and in the Mindanao area.
Mindanao will be represented by Lanao Del Norte’s Enoch Avilla and Dene Edullentes.
The champions in both men’s and women’s division will receive P10,000 cash, trophies and selected items from Babolat Philippines.
