MEGABOND kept its record clean as it survived the offensive onslaught of Davies’ wingman Mike Cinco and came away with an 83-78 win in the Architects + Engineers Basketball Association Corporate Cup on Saturday at the University of San Carlos gym.
Cinco came away with an incredible 51 points topped by six rebounds and six assists but it went to waste as the trio of Romulo Anino, Malvin Malicdem and Loreniel Tequin took turns puncturing the Davies defense to win their fifth in a row while handing the latter to their third loss in five matches.
Anino had 27 points, Tequin had 24 points, five boards and five dimes while Malicdem scored 23 markers, grabbed four boards, issued five steals and stole the ball five times to power Megabond to the victory.
In other games, CMI solidified its hold of second place as it won its fourth game in five tries with a 71-67 win over Fenestram. Jun Villacorta scored 29 points and had nine boards while Richard Badayos contributed 11 and six assists to help the team emerge with the win in the intensely-fought encounter.
Finally, the reigning champions Dorma gained a tie for third with Davies as they routed Phoenix, 85-55, behind the 33-point performance of last conference’s MVP, Ed Macasling.
