Village of 2 slain sisters has a drug problem

THE Carcar city government extended cash aid to the family of  two sisters,  who were hacked in their sleep  by an uncle, who killed himself right after the deed in barangay Napo.

Carcar City Mayor Nicepuro Apura said his office took care of  funeral expenses of  Rosalyn Mangyao, 16, and Charmain, 11, and will give  P10,000 assistance to the Mangyao family.    The burial will  be held on Friday.

City social workers  did stress debriefing for two boys, nephews of the victims, who witnessed the  violence.

The mayor confirmed that barangay Napo had a drug use problem. The motive of the killing was first linked to  a nervous breakdown but the mayor said he, too, heard reports that the uncle Domingo Mangayo had a drug problem.

The Cebu Provincial Council for the Welfare of Children (PCWC) is also willing to help the two young witnesses.

Heddah Largo said the PCWC is just waiting for  social workers from Carcar to coordinate with the province.  Largo said  the province can provide medical and psychological examination services.

The two sisters were killed at home last Monday .  Their necks were hacked and slashed by their uncle, who  killed himself the same way.

The brutal killing was witnessed by the victims’ nephews   who were hiding under a big plastic basin.

Mayor Apura said the boys need to be processed  because of the trauma they experienced.

Apura said he ordered the policemen to continue conducting anti-drug operations.

He said other barangays in the city have the same problem and that the drug pushers actually from outside Carcar City.
