Mandaue traffic: City to close one lane for Subangdaku Bridge rehab
MANDAUE CITY, Cebu – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH-7) will start the rehabilitation of the Subangdaku Bridge near Innodata on Tuesday, May 12, with one lane closed to traffic.
The remaining lane will remain open for two-way traffic.
The bridge will undergo improvements aimed at elevating the structure to help prevent floods during heavy rains. It serves as a boundary between the cities of Cebu and Mandaue.
Initial estimates show the work may take up to six months.
According to the Traffic Enforcement Agency of Mandaue (TEAM), the lane near Innodata will be the first to be closed for the rehabilitation works.

Hyll Retuya, head of TEAM, said that under an agreement with Cebu City, vehicles coming from Cebu City going to Mandaue City will not be affected by the closure.
Mandaue traffic: Alternative routes advised
However, vehicles coming from Mandaue City going to Cebu City will be required to take alternative routes.
Retuya added that only modern and traditional public utility jeepneys from Mandaue will be allowed to pass through the bridge. They follow designated routes and will not be diverted.
Vehicles that are not among those allowed to pass will be ticketed by the Cebu City Traffic Office if the drivers insist on going that way.
Motorists are advised to use alternative routes, including M. Logarta Avenue, S.O. Albaño Street, and Gatewalk/Ayala Road.
Price to pay: Traffic congestion near Subangdaku Bridge
Trucks coming from M.C. Briones Street are advised to pass through M. Logarta Avenue.
Authorities have warned of possible traffic congestion in the area and urged motorists to plan their trips ahead of time.
Retuya also said that personnel will be deployed under the Subangdaku flyover and at key access points to assist motorists.
“Bisan mag-ilis na og lane nga ilang i-rehabilitate padayun gihapon ang Cebu City mao ray mahatagan access pasulod, ang Mandaue will always divert….Gitagaan nato og priority ang Cebu City kay nihangyo wala sad silay other alternative routes,” Retuya said.
Work may last up to November
(Even when the lanes are changed as the rehabilitation progresses, only vehicles coming from Cebu City will be given access. Those from Mandaue will be asked to divert. We agreed to prioritize Cebu City upon their request because they lack alternative routes.)
The DPWH and the contractor said that the rehabilitation of both sides of the bridge is expected to be completed by November.
