CEBU CITY, Philippines — After weeks under yellow and red alert, grid conditions in the Visayas have improved on Thursday, June 4.
The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) announced the activation of KSPC (Korea SPC Power Corp.) 2 in Naga City, Cebu, which helped boost the region’s supply.

As of Thursday, the available supply in the Visayas is at 2,741 megawatts (MW), with system peak demand at 2,362 MW. This means that the region’s operating margins are at 379 MW.
However, NGCP warned that they might issue yellow alert once again should a single power plant shut down.

Since May 12, the Visayas Grid faced 17 yellow alerts and 4 red alerts.
The thinning supply has been blamed on the combined effects of power plants under forced outages and high electricity demand due to the hot, dry season.
The Department of Energy (DOE) earlier revealed interventions to address power concerns in the region.
