Cebu City’s arnisadors top PNG with 22 golds

Stick fighters from Cebu City flaunted their combat skills yesterday in the 2015 Philippine National Games-Visayas Leg (PNG) arnis tournament, bagging 22 golds, 11 silvers and six bronzes to capture the event’s overall title in San Jose, Antique.

Iloilo Province was a far second with eight golds, five silvers and one bronze while Iloilo City ended up with seven golds and one bronze to settle for third-overall.

Lapu-Lapu City wound up in fourth after capturing five golds, two silvers and one bronze.

ARCHERY

The Cebuano trio of Michael Solier, Warren Obaob and Christian Caresosa took home the gold medal in the Men’s Recurve Open Team Olympic Round without breaking a sweat after their counterparts from Maasin, Leyte failed to show up in the venue.

WEIGHTLIFTING

Mandaue City’s Renee Aliana Lao displayed her massive strength, overwhelming Angelie Burbano of Bohol to capture the gold medal in the Women’s 63kg weightlifting competition.

Another Cebuano, Gary Hortelano overpowered his counterparts en route to a gold medal finish in the Men’s 85kg division with 245 points beating Arnold Romano who tallied 235 points and University of the East (UE)-product John Kevin Padullo who finished with 215 points, good for bronze.

TAEKWONDO

Taekwondo jins from the Province of Cebu finished third-overall in the PNG Taekwondo medal race after racking up seven golds, three silvers and one bronze while Cebu City settled for fifth spot with six golds, three silvers and one bronze medal. Iloilo City topped the event with 16 golds, six silvers and three bronze medals.

BOXING

Cebuano ring warrior Johnro Taneo stayed on track for the gold medal in PNG boxing by winning his second-round match with a Technical Knockout (TKO) victory over Francis Neil Quilaquiga of Dumaguete City.

Another Cebu bet, Ramjess Colina won via unanimous decision against Richard Bacalla, 30-27, 30-27, 30-27, in the light-welterweight division.
