Provincial hospital chiefs to be reshuffled

THE Provincial Health Office will reshuffle all chiefs of province-owned hospitals as part of its efforts to improve management of 16 province-run medical facilities.

Provincial Health Officer Dr. Cynthia Genosolango said the reshuffling is an offshoot of the death of a one-year-old girl at the Minglanilla District Hospital earlier this month.

The Capitol terminated the services of Dr. Agnes Demano, the attending doctor who was found at fault for causing a delay in the girl’s treatment.

“That’s one area that needs improvement. This seems to be the best time to do the reshuffling,” she said.

Genosolango earlier said Demano wrote a prescription for P700 worth of medical supplies to try to save the life of Mary Jane Bariquit, but she didn’t have to because these were available in the hospital’s pharmacy.

Genosolango said this was a “misjudgment” on Demano’s part.

As a consequence of this incident, Genosolango said no chief of hospital will be pulled out at the moment.

“But we are looking at the big probability of transferring them to another station. We’ll see if someone else can do better in that particular area,” she said.
