South district to get road widening, underpass projects

ABOUT P1 billion worth of infrastructure projects will be implemented in Cebu City’s south district next year, south district Rep. Rodrigo Abellanosa  said.

The congressman told this to reporters during his 54th birthday celebration at the Mariners’ Court last Wednesday evening.

Abellanosa said the projects were included in next year’s budget of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) for 2016.

“These projects are mostly for road widening. We will also take from here the additional funds for our underpass project for implementation by early next year,” Abellanosa said.

He said an initial amount of P376 million has been set aside this year for his proposed underpass in the intersection of N. Bacalso Ave. and F. Llamas St.

An additional budget of P500 million has been included next year for the project.

“We’re looking forward to the first or second quarter for implementation because there are still preparations needed for it,” Abellanosa said.

He said the DPWH has been processing the acquisition of private properties that will be affected by the project.  The amount also includes a road-widening project for C. Padilla St.

Abellanosa said the underpass and road-widening projects can help address the traffic problem in the area especially with the opening of the SM Seaside City in the South Road Properties (SRP).

He said C. Padilla St. is an important arterial road leading to Mambaling which is one of the main access roads going to the SRP.

Abellanosa is running for reelection next year against Councilor Gerardo Carillo of Team Rama.
