Choi-wan now a super typhoon

The typhoon with the international name ‘Choi-wan’ has intensified into a Super Typhoon as of 8 p.m. Sunday, October 4.

Choi-wan is currently still outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) but is closely being monitored by weather bureau Pagasa.

Choi-wan, based on a bulletin released Sunday night by Pagasa, is packing winds of 185 kilometer per hour (km/h) and gusts of 230 km/h.

Its location as of 8 p.m. is 2,600 kilometers east of extreme northern Luzon.  It is heading north northwestward at a speed of 10 km/h. 

Pagasa said earlier on Sunday that cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms was expected in parts of the Visayas and Mindanao  due to the trough, or extension, of Choi-wan.
