3T runners sign up for Cebu City Marathon

THE CEBU City Marathon has gained a number of participants barely a month before race day on Jan. 10 at the Cebu IT Park.

As of this writing, 3,302 runners have already enlisted for the race organized by the Cebu Executive Runners Club (CERC). The deadline is this Sunday.

John Pages, one of the organizer of the running event, said 1,405 runners will compete in the 42-kilometer full marathon while 1,472 runners will join the 21k half marathon. The 425 runners are signed up in the 5k.

The running event was founded in 2008 and  was then called the “Sinulog Half Marathon.” It  was accredited by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) a few years ago, making it one of the very few foot races in the country to get such an accreditation by the governing body of the world’s marathon races.

The running event is usually scheduled every second Sunday of January and is considered part of the Sinulog festivities.

Registration fee is pegged at P650 (5K), P1,500 (21K), and P1,800 (42K). Registration is available at the Active Zone of Ayala Center Cebu and online through cebumarathon.net.

Pages said they are optimistic they can draw 1,500 runners in both the 42k and 21k distances and 500 runners in the 5k.
