Pocket fires break out in Alaska, Lahug, San Nicolas

Four houses were destroyed while five others including a bakeshop and a parlor were damaged in three separate fires that broke out in Cebu City yesterday afternoon.

Fire investigators pointed to an electrical short circuit as the cause of the fire that hit a congested area in barangay Alaska Mambaling.

The fire originated at the house of Lydia Romaries, which she rented out to her boarder James Navarro.

The fire alarm was received at 3:13 p.m. yesterday in sitio Tinabangay 2.

Nearby houses of Lorna Baya, Lito Villaver and a certain Meling were also destroyed by the afternoon fire.

The Elizabeth Cafe and Bakeshop owned by Boy Nuñez, and the houses of Vincent Deken and Belen Oriendo were damaged.

Damage was pegged at P50,000. The fire was declared under control after five minutes.

The houses were mostly made of light materials.

In barangay Lahug, an electrical short circuit was also blamed for the fire that destroyed a parlor reported at 2:35 p.m.

It was immediately put out after a few minutes.

A house was also damaged by fire in sitio Tabuk-Canal, barangay Basak San Nicholas at 2:30 p.m. yesterday.

It was put out minutes later.
