THE 2002 Legendary Lions turned to former two-time Cesafi MVP Enrico Llanto for production and the lithe big man delivered, scoring 43 points to tow them to a close 81-79 win over the 2000 Millennium in Division 2 of the 2015 University of San Carlos North Alumni Basketball Conference Sinulog Homecoming Cup last weekend at the USC North Campus gym along Mango Avenue.
Llanto, one of the school’s outstanding basketball athletes, played like a man possessed and dominated his defenders to help his squad come away with the victory to push their win-loss record to 4-3. Llanto also got help from Rocky Alcoseba who added 14, Violeto Tan who scored 11 and Christopher Pocong who chipped in 10.
Millennium, though, bounced back with an 85-63 rout of the Faculty as Ali Caballo tallied 21 markers. Ryan Cahibaybayan also had 17 while Lex Lauron scored 16 points to help Batch 2000 recover and push their record to 5-2.
The Faculty then salvaged their weekend with an 89-81 victory over the 1995 Pirates in the battle between the basement dwellers of the standings. The win was the Faculty’s first in eight games while the Pirates remained winless in this tournament.
In other matches in the aforementioned class, Sipat 98 climbed up to second place with a 62-52 win over the Dos Mil Uno 2001. Cromwell Po paced the winners with 28 points while skipper Bryan Toledo chimed in with 12 of his own. Batch 1998 now boasts of a 5-2 record while Dos Mil Uno fell to fourth at 5-3.
