Cebu city gov’t revokes permits, orders dealers to move to SRP

The Cebu city government yesterday  revoked permits earlier given to businesses  that allowed them to sell firecrackers and pyrotechnics inside malls.

Thee vendors were instead directed to sell their products in the designated area for the purpose in the  South Road Properties (SRP).

Cebu City Treasurer Diwa Cuevas gave the order after meeting with  Acting Mayor Edgardo Labella to discuss the Philippine National Police’s memo reminding the Cebu City government to strictly implement the law on  sale,  distribution and use of firecrackers in the country.

The PNP memo cited the national law, Republic Act 7183, which regulates the selling, distribution and use of firecrackers and pyrotechnics. This include a ban on the  sale of these products in malls.

Labella said the national law  prevails over  City Ordinance 2290, which allows certain dealers of pyrotechnics and other firecrackers to sell in malls.

Cuevas said her office already informed   dealers and mall owners about the revocation of permits issued by the city government  on December 3, and the order to move their outlets to the SRP.

Cuevas said starting today , pyrotechnic products and firecrackers displayed in malls will be confiscated.

Meanwhile,  the Cebu Port Police reminded  the public to secure transport permits for firecrackers and fireworks.

Supt. Joshua Pantoja, Chief for Intelligence and Investigation Section, said that items that do not have transport permits will be confiscated.

“Transport permits should be secured from Firearms and Explosives, Security Agencies and Guards Supervision (FESAGS),” Pantoja said.

“If they do not have transport permits, then we will look for the receipts that they have. The distributors or stores should also be accredited by FESAGS,” he added.

Without the permits or store receipts, Pantoja said they will confiscate the items and return them when the passenger can secure the requirements.
