THE PHILIPPINE Men’s National Football Team, more known as the Philippine Azkals, improved its standing in the latest FIFA world rankings.
The Azkals improved are now 135th in the world after falling down to 139th last year due to their sloppy campaign in the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers, where they lost three games.
Currently at third place in Group H with two wins, one draw, and three losses, they’ll be playing out the remainder of the World Cup Qualifiers this coming March with a game in Tashkent against Uzbekistan on March 24 and then back here at home against North Korea on March 29.
The Philippine Azkals ruled the Southeast Asian rankings of FIFA last year by placing as high as 127th in the world. But Thailand emerged as this year’s top team, ranked 121st from 133rd last year.
Belgium is the number one team for the first month of 2016 followed by Argentina, Spain, Germany and Chile. Powerhouses Brazil, Portugal, Colombia, England, and Austria round off the top ten, respectively.
