CEBUANA junior netters Kristin Rene Salimbangon and Zethley Mae Alferez lived up to their lofty billing as they outclassed their foes in the girls 18 years division of the Cebuana Lhuillier Age-Group Tennis tournament yesterday at Citigreen Tennis Resort.
Naga City’s pride Alferez managed to escape Gennifer Lysandra Pagente, 7-5, 6-4, while Salimbangon won over Trina Camille Colina via walkover.
With their victories, Alferez and Salimbangon are set to lock horns with Angela Cabral and Carlyn Bless Guarde, respectively, today. Cesafi gold medalist Shyne
Villareal and Batang Pinoy gold medalist Elizabeth Abarquez will also go up against each other today at 1 p.m.
In the girls 14 years old category, Tiffany Claire Nocos scored an easy win against Dianafe Perez, 6-3, 6-3, to zoom into the next round and set up a duel versus Lyra Mae Repollo, who blasted Kiersten Albofera, 6-1, 6-3.
Meanwhile, visiting netters Jose Maria Pague and Clyde Casiño registered separate wins to move to the quarterfinal round of their respective divisions.
Pague of Zamboanga lighted up the fire in the boys 18 division as he defeated Russel Cero, 6-3, 6-4, while Cagayan de Oro’s Casiño pounded Richard Bautista, 7-5, 5-7, 10-6, in the boys 16 category.
As of press time, Cebuanos Jan Godfrey Seno, Norman Joseph Enriquez, Marc Suson were playing against Kevin Paul Borja, fellow Cebuano Francis Hidalgo and Dale Estonillo, respectively.
