Omega Pro Sports Int’l launched

With a promise to showcase quality fights and develop aspiring boxers around the country, the Omega Pro Sports International Promotions was launched yesterday at the Robinsons Galleria Cebu Atrium.

The promotional outfit also introduced its stable of 17 boxers, who will see action in Who’s Next Pro-Boxing Series.

“We are here to make change for the better. We will put up quality fights and we will scout for aspiring talents with our amateur program,” said Pio Castillo, President of Omega Pro Sports International.

Castillo stressed that Omega is not out to compete with other promotional outfits.

“We don’t want to compare ourselves to other groups. We noticed that boxing has become stagnant and that’s something that we want to change,” added Castillo.

Among those present in the launching were Pio Castillo, president and chairman of International Pharmaceuticals Inc. (IPI), and Chad Canares, Vice President of Omega Pro Sports, Regan Rex King, Principal Dealer of Harley-Davidson motorcycles, Hyundai Chief Executive Officer Kenneth Tan and Rhoel James Timothy Dejano, Omega’s team physician.

The Who’s Next series, backed by Hyundai and Harley-Davidson, will offer six installments this year.

The first installment will be on March 6 at the Robinsons Galleria.

Canares recently flew to Thailand to meet with World Boxing Organization (WBO) Vice President for Asia-Pacific Leon Panoncillo Jr.

One of the items discussed in the meeting was the putting up of a card headlined by one of Omega’s prized wards Jhack Tepora, who will  vie for the WBO Asia-Pacific Super-bantamweight crown.

Tepora has 16 wins with 11 knockouts.

“The public can watch our six events this year for free. We will also do events in provinces,” said Canares.

Apart from Tepora, other Omega boxers who were introduced in the launching were Marjun Pincenabes, Oliver Genecera, Mark Vicelles, Royder Lloyd Borbon, Ponciano Remandiman, JR Aliasot, Allan Villanueva, Tomjune Mangubat, Jimboy Haya, Filjune Taneo, Jerry Castroverde, Jared Jahleel Payao, Kenny Demecillo, Salatiel Amit, Vergilio Silvano and Christian Araneta.
