Autopsy done on slain Dutch

The police medico-legal officer performed an autopsy yesterday on the Dutch national found dead inside a rented room at the second floor of Turtle’s Nest Book Cafe and Gallery.

This developed as a representative of the Consulate of Netherlands visited the remains of Dieter Friedritch Meyer at the Cebu Rolling Hills Memorial Chapels Inc., where his body was brought.

Fernando Bertulfo, a staff of the Cebu Rolling Hills Memorial Chapels Inc., told Cebu Daily News that Chief Insp. Felino Brunia Jr., Philippine National Police (PNP) medico-legal officer, had already conducted yesterday a post-mortem examination of the body of Meyer to determine what might have killed him.

Meyer, 66, was found dead inside his room last Saturday morning with a piece of cloth stuffed in his mouth. Police found  bruises on his head and right eye, suggesting that he might have been hit by a blunt object.

Police earlier said that they believed that the Dutch pensioner was murdered.

Police also found signs of struggle inside his room with his things in disarray.

Bertulfo told Cebu Daily News in a phone interview that the representative of the Consulate of  Netherlands assured that they will contact the relatives of the Dutch victim to inform them of his demise.

“They came in yesterday morning to check on the status of Meyer. We were told that if foul play will be found after the autopsy, they will ask for a thorough investigation on the case,” said Bertulfo.
