V-hires in Maritima to move to Ayala, SM terminals

VANS-for-hire (V-hires) going to to Balamban and back to Cebu City will soon be loading and unloading passengers in two big malls in the city.

The Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) has approved a resolution allowing 60 V-hires, which are currently staying at the lot near the old Compania Maritima Building, to stay in the terminals in Ayala Center Cebu and SM City Cebu.

“The consensus was reached following the board’s deliberation that it is best to all concerned that they directly load and unload there as these malls are the usual destinations of passengers, and besides, they can conveniently take a ride there to their other destinations,” said CCTO Executive Director Rey Gealon.

He said the managements of both SM and Ayala have welcomed the idea as it will also be good for them.

The drivers are asked by CCTO to submit their certificate of registration, official receipt, certificates of public convenience (CPC) and driver’s license.

The CCTO will then verify these documents with concerned agencies to ensure that there will be no colorum V-hires that will be loading and unloading in the malls.

After submission and verification of the documents, Gealon said the V-hires can start staying in the terminals of the two malls.

Gealon said the 60 drivers requested for the transfer from the old Compania Maritima building lot to the malls’ terminals.

The Cebu Provincial government earlier allowed the Balamban-bound V-hires to stay at the Cebu South Bus Terminal, but Gealon said they decided it’s more convenient for the passengers if the V-hires load and unload in the malls.
