Games today:

4:15 p.m.- Mahindra vs. NLEX
7:00 p.m.- San Miguel Beer vs. GlobalPort

The San Miguel Beermen try to avoid a second straight defeat when they meet the dangerous GlobalPort Batang Pier in the main game of today’s double-header of the 41st PBA Commissioner’s Cup at the Araneta Coliseum.

The Beermen marked their first outing from a historic title run in the Philippine Cup with a 96-102 loss to the Mahindra Enforcers last Saturday.

San Miguel played without top point guard Alex Cabagnot in that loss and it didn’t help that only two locals scored in double figures with Arwind Santos and Marcio Lassiter cashing in 17 and 14 points, respectively.

San Miguel’s dominant big man June Mar Fajardo managed just eight points, failing to provide the needed to support to import Tyler Wilkerson, who finished with 29 points and 13 rebounds.

A solo second place will be the target of the Batang Pier, who are looking for a third straight victory.

The Batang Pier are coming off a 108-101 win over the defending champions Talk ‘N Text Tropang Texters.

Playing his first game in his second tour of duty as a GlobalPort import, Calvin Warner scored just 11 points but had 21 rebounds.

Warner’s paltry production was hardly felt as Terrence Romeo erupted for 33 points.

GlobalPort is in a three-way tie with the NLEX Road Warriors and Mahindra Enforcers at second place with similar 2-1 records.

NLEX and Mahindra go separate ways as they clash in the first game set at 4:15 p.m.
