THE first Philippine National Outdoor Archery Championships bannered by the newly formed World Archery Philippines (WAP) kicked off yesterday at the San Pedro Calungsod Templete at South Road Properties.

A simple opening ceremony and practice session for the 120 competing archers were held yesterday.

Games will start today and end on Sunday.

Categories include unique PVC (12 meters), Human (20m), Bowmen (30m), Cadet (50m), Juniors (70m), Seniors (70m) and the Masters division (50m).

WAP will adopt a cumulative point system and a minimum qualifying score (MQS) of 630 points for archers contending to be eligible for the national team pool.

The MQS will have to be reached by June.

The tournament is the first of two Olympic trials. The next will be this March in Novaliches City.

WAP is aiming for a shot at the World Cup and Rio Qualifier at Antalya, Turkey in June.
