THE best wood pushers of the Cebu Executives and Professionals Chess Association (CEPCA) will converge today for the club’s first monthly qualifiers for 2016 at the Robinsons Galleria Cebu Atrium.
The tournament is one of 12 monthly meets from which top wood pushers are selected who will compete in the grand finals slated in December. The five-round Swiss system tournament is expected to draw CEPCA’s brightest chess players.
Today’s event will select the top woodpushers in Group A and Group B as qualifiers for January and February who will be awarded cash prizes from this month’s sponsor Engr. Marvyne Guardiana.
Interested parties may register on the day of the tournament with action slated to start at 1 p.m.
National Master (NM) Rogelio Enriquez was last year’s grand winner after upsetting grand slam-seeking Jimmy Ty in the grand finals held last December at Handuraw Pizza.
