THE family of a Cebuano overseas worker who died in an underground railway tunnel project in Qatar last Feb. 28 will have to wait longer for the arrival of his remains back in the country.
This after the Philippine Embassy only learned about his death when it was reported in a foreign newspaper last March 5.
Amelyn, wife of the late Juanito Pardillo, said her brother-in-law said the papers had been processed and his remains are only waiting to be transported back to his home in Toledo City.
Amelyn said a woman named Rose Cherry heard about her plight and offered her help through her Facebook account.
She said Cherry’s British husband worked as a consultant for the project that Pardillo worked on.
Amelyn said Cherry’s husband quit the project after he failed to convince those involved in the underground railway tunnel project that it wasn’t feasible because the soil was soft.
Amelyn said her husband’s company sent his salary to her while Pardillo’s co-workers each donated money.
She was referred by the Cebu provincial government to the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration which promised to help her.
Pardillo died after being buried by boulders in the underground tunnel site.
