Veterans Foundation president passes away

The regional president of the Veterans Foundation of the Philippines (VFP 7) in Central Visayas passed away in his sleep at his home in R.R. Landon Street, barangay Sta. Cruz in Cebu city at 5 am Monday.

Eighty-seven year old Angelo Alo died of pneumonia, his daughter Angelina Alo-Marinduque told reporters. He was survived by his five children and 12 grand children.

Marinduque said her father was brought to Chong Hua Hospital due to heat stroke when he was about to attend a burial ceremony of another veteran last January 30 in Pinamungajan town.

Since then, he was already bedridden and could not speak though he could open his eyes.  The doctors approved his discharge from the hospital last week, but he still he was bedridden.

He also had a kidney problem and was scheduled to undergo the third session of dialysis today. Last night, Marinduque said they noticed her father’s health to have deteriorated.

“He was sweating profusely by 4 am and by the time he was about to be served breakfast, he passed away,” Marinduque said.

Alo, one of the few remaining World War II veterans, assumed the VFP presidency last January when Atty. Democrito Mendoza, former VFP 7 president, died.

His wake will be held in his home until his burial at the Queen City Memorial Gardens this Saturday./Correspondent Jhunnex Napallacan
