The Home Run 2016 with the theme “Run to Build Their Future” will be held on April 23.

The run is organized by the Primary Group of Builders, through its Primary Structures Educational Foundation Inc. (PSEFI), to raise funds for the foundation’s technical training scholarship program.

The program offers free courses in welding, masonry, plumbing, carpentry and housekeeping, among others, to out-of-school youth and adults and persons with disabilities.

Women empowerment is also an advocacy of the foundation. According to Paulette Liu, chief operating officer of PSEFI, “Increasing the number of women in the construction industry is really a hurdle, a challenge, since there’s still a lot of resistance, but I think we should give them the opportunity as well.”

The PSEFI-SKILLS boasts of having trained the first batch of female heavy equipment operators for bulldozers and cement mixers at construction sites, not just in Cebu, but other parts of the southern Philippines as well.

The foundation also takes pride in having produced no less than two thousand competent and globally competitive tech-voc students since it was founded in 2008.

The run has three categories: 3k, 6k and 12k. The run begins at 4:30 a.m. at the Cebu Business Park along Sumilon Road.

Registration is ongoing until April 18 at the Primary Homes office on the second level of SM City Cebu, or at RUNNR in Ayala Center Cebu. Registration fee is P250 for the 3k, P350 for the 6k and P450 for 12k. The fee is inclusive of  singlet, bib, snacks and giveaways. /Ateneo de Zamboanga University Intern Pristine Janielle Padua
