V-hire terminal to be transferred to SM Seaside

More than 200 vans-for-hire (V-hire) will soon move from their temporary terminal at the Compaña Maritima to the SM Seaside City Cebu mall at the South Road Properties.

The Cebu City government, SM Seaside management and V-hire drivers and operators have signed an agreement on the transfer.

Under the agreement, SM Seaside management will provide for free in the next two years an area for loading, unloading and parking for V-hire units.
The drivers imposed three conditions before they agreed to the deal.

They demanded that V-hire drivers be allowed overnight parking, a free shuttle be provided for their passengers to the terminal, and that they be allowed to have barkers in the area.

“We have no choice. But their facilities at SM Seaside are good, and it was SM that made the request for the transfer,” said V-hire operator and driver Alan Jumo-ad.

Jumo-ad said they should be given enough time to conduct an information drive to inform passengers about the transfer to SM Seaside.

Lucelle Mercado, head of the Cebu City Terminal Accreditation Board, said the relocation of the V-hire terminal is only temporary. A meeting will be held next week to finalize the details.
