CEBU City’s Department of Engineering and Public Works (DEPW) has warned the contractor of the Carbon Market Unit II project of termination of contract if the contractor continues to delay the completion of the project.
Liquidated damages may also be imposed against Geety Realty Development Corp. if they fail to provide an explanation on the continued delay of the P167-million project, said Jose Marie Poblete, DEPW chief.
A letter addressed to Geety Proprietor and Manager Andrea Tan contained the warning and sought the firm’s explanation for the delay. It was signed by DEPW Construction Division head Niva Bayucot and noted by Poblete.
The reconstruction project started last April 24, 2013 and was supposed to be completed 360 calendar days after – which meant it should have been completed by April 18, 2014.
But Councilor Alvin Arcilla, who heads the committee on markets, said the building is still far from done.
Arcilla earlier session at the City Council discussing the project said that only structural frames have been completed in the project site.
In a separate interview, Poblete said they decided to grant another extension to Geety to finish the project by June 30.
“If they still can’t finish it, we will evaluate. Possibly, we will rescind the contract,” Poblete said.
