JUMBO Plastic refused to stay down after the drubbing it received at the hands of NLEX as it vented its ire upon Boracay Rum, which it crushed, 86-72, in the PBA D-League Aspirants Cup on Tuesday at the Trinity University of Asia gym.
The win put the Giants’ record at 9-3 (win-loss) and in a good position to take a twice-to-beat bonus in the quarterfinals. The third and fourth placers at the end of the elimination round get to have the aforementioned incentive in the next round.
Point guard and former PBA draft pick Elliot Tan had 17 points while Cebuano forward Jan Colina continued his superb play, tallying 16 points, seven rebounds and four steals.
The two were especially lethal in the second half where they combined to score nearly half of the Giants’ points as they extended what was a 32-26 lead into a 59-44 bulge going to the last period.
The loss ended Boracay Rum’s three-game winning streak and put them in ninth place and in danger of missing the six-team playoffs.
