Corro supporters leave municipal hall

TENSION eased in Daanbantayan yesterday after more than 100 supporters of Mayor Augusto Corro left the town hall grounds which they occupied the day before.

Senior Insp. Roger Quijano, Daanbantayan police chief, told Cebu Daily News by phone that the supporters were no longer outside the town hall when they inspected the area yesterday.

Corro’s supporters questioned the election result proclaiming retired police chief Vicente Loot as mayor by a margin of seven votes.

“So far the situation here is okay, they did not do anything violent,” Quijano said.

Corro refused to concede defeat to Loot and is talking with his lawyer to file charges against the mayor-elect.

Loot, who ran under One Cebu, got 20,412 votes against Corro, an LP-Cebu member, who garnered 20,405 votes.

Corro vowed to file charges against Loot whom he accused of ordering his men to harass his supporters in Barangay Taminhao a day before the election.

Corro claimed that a barangay official allied with Loot went inside the polling precinct in Barangay Carnaza and intimidated supporters on the day of the elections.

Corro even accused the retired police official of distributing umbrellas with his name printed on it also on election day.
