More than a week after the May 9 elections, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Cebu province has started distribution of the cash cards containing the honorarium for each teacher who served as Board of Election Inspector (BEI).
Acting Cebu provincial Election Supervisor Eliseo Labaria said yesterday that the cash cards were distributed to the election officers (EO) starting Sunday.
Labaria said the completion of the distribution, however, would depend with the EOs.
“Depende sa gipaspason sa EO… Depende sa gidak-on sa lugar (It will depend with how fast the EO can distribute the cards… It would also depend on the size of the area),” he added.
A total of 12,198 cash cards were delivered on May 8 at the Comelec office and the same number were also distributed yesterday.
In San Fernando town, Election Officer Ferdinand Hortelano, however, said they plan to distribute the cash cards on May 18 yet, because they have not yet completed their payroll.
There are 310 BEIs in San Fernando, including the support staff.
Labaria said other than the BEIs, those who will be receiving the cash cards include the supervisors, support staff and the support staff of the municipal board of canvassers (MBOC).
The chairman of the BEI will receive P4,500 honorarium while his or her support staff will receive P3,000 each.
Each BEI is also set to receive P2,000, an increase that was approved in late January, bringing their total compensation for election duties to P6,500.
