HOPING to improve the lifestyle of those working in the BPO industry, a band of runners have decided to stage a running event dubbed “Aux Run 2016” set on June 5 starting at the Sumilon Road of the Cebu Business Park.
Headed by the BPO Running Club’s President Ronan Miranda, the running event will feature 16-kilometer, 8k and 3k distances that will pass through some of Cebu City’s BPO centers.
“Three years ago, I saw joy in running and I decided to share the passion to them, my fellow BPO workers because we want to break the stigma of BPO’s unhealthy lifestyle,” said Miranda during yesterday’s launching at the Montebello Villa Garden Hotel.
Miranda was joined by the running club’s founding members Gwe Un, Janice Masapequena, Mark James Bundac and Frances Loraine Crystal. All of them work in different BPO companies in Cebu.
Their group was formed to inspire fellow BPO workers to engage into a healthy lifestyle through running. Most of them have finished marathons and ultra marathons. Masapequena is a finisher of last March’s All Women’s Ultra Marathon (AWUM) which has a grueling 50k distance.
According to Miranda, they named their running event “Aux Run” after the auxiliary phone, which is the main tool used by BPO employees in their jobs.
Proceeds of this running event will be given to Danao City-based foundation Batang Pinalangga which helps the abused, abandoned and neglected children.
Veteran race director Joel Juarez of Coco Running will handle the technical side of the race.
Registration fee is pegged at P700 for the 16k, P550 for the 8k and P450 for the 3k category inclusive of finishers’ medal, singlet and race bib.
Registration can be done at the RUNNR Ayala Center Cebu.
