The body of a man was found hanging upside down and entangled in electric wires of an electric post along the roadside of Sitio Bulubugan, Barangay Tahao, Pinamungajan town in western Cebu late Sunday afternoon.
Police said the still unidentified man, who was reported to be a barangay electrician fixing the electrical connections of a nearby boarding house, was apparently electrocuted.
Insp. Gilfred Baroman, chief of Pinamungajan Police Station, said they sought the help of the Cebu Electric Cooperative (Cebeco) to remove the body from the electric post.
Baroman said the victim was found dead at about 5 p.m.
He was hanging upside down with his body entangled in the wires and his legs still on the electric post.
“Nangayo jud tag tabang sa Cebeco kay kuryente man gud na basin magpataka lang tag hikap ba, masamotan pa unya nato ang sitwasyon (We asked help from the Cebeco since we are dealing with electricity here. We do not want to make any action that may worsen the situation),” Baroman told Cebu Daily News in a phone interview.
But the electrician, who is said to be residing in the nearby Barangay Dumlog, was already dead when brought to the Pinamungajan District Hospital.
Virgilio Fortich Jr., Cebeco III general manager, said they are still investigating why the man climbed the electric post because only their linemen are allowed to climb and fix connections at the electric posts.
“We have personnel in the area who are already conducting an investigation,” he said.
Fortich said they did not also get any reported power outage in the vicinity of Toledo City and Pinamungajan town when the electrocution happened.
