Policeman tests positive in surprise drug test

A police officer was found positive of drug use in a surprise drug test conducted yesterday morning at the Mandaue City Police Office headquarters.

MCPO Chief Supt. Jonathan Cabal requested the unannounced drug test as city police and provincial directors are required to undergo testing at least once a year or more, at the police chief’s discretion.

Police operatives were subjected to the surprise drug test after the 7 a.m. flag-raising ceremony.

Sixty-five personnel were expected at the MCPO headquarters but only 50 showed up as some personnel were either absent or attending court hearings.

Cabal did not divulge the name of the police officer who was initially found positive of drug use.

He said he will wait for the confirmatory results from the PNP Crime Laboratory.

Once confirmed, Cabal said, the police officer will be given an opportunity to defend himself but summary dismissal proceedings will be filed against the said police officer.

Cabal said police officers who are involved in illegal activities don’t have a place in police force and must be dismissed from service.
