Alaska Milk Run a success despite rains

OVER a thousand runners braved yesterday’s early morning downpour to participate in the 2016 Alaska World Milk Day Run which started and finished at the SM Seaside City in the South Road Properties (SRP).

The Cebu leg drew 1,152 runners while 500 more joined the hour-long Zumba Marathon. The race features 3-kilometer and 5k distances.

Raymund Fruto, brand manager of Alaska Milk Corporation’s Liquid Milk, said that they are very happy of the big turn-out despite the rain. “The turn-out this year is way bigger than last year.

The Cebuanos are really into the active lifestyle and we at Alaska love to promote active lifestyle and healthy nutrition by drinking milk,” said Fruto.

The nationwide race started in 2012 in four key cities namely Metro Manila, Davao, Naga City in Camarines Sur and Cebu City. It was highlighted by a milk toast to increase people’s awareness on the importance of drinking milk.

Although the run was non-competitive, organizers still recognized the winning runners from each distance.

Adonis Singson and Issa Priagula topped the 5k race by clocking 17:51 and 24:50, respectively while Rafael Lugay and Mary Joy Loberanis ruled the 5k kids category in 18:59 and 20:36, respectively.

Ruffa Sorongon and Kenyan Abraham Kilimo won the 3k event in 11:21 and 09:40, respectively while the kids’ division was ruled by Carl John Beboso (12:25) and Catherine Angeline Yu (12:11).

Veteran race director Joel Juarez of Coco Running handled the technical side of the event.
