A PREFABRICATED collapsible building that was used to house night dwellers is being considered to temporarily house 600 students from the city’s barangays.
Cebu City Acting Mayor Margot Osmeña said the Cebu City Hillyland Dormitory (CCHD) in Natalio Bacalso Avenue is unsafe for the students.
“I was informed that the (condominium) building is different in the sense it has no posts. I cannot explain as I am not an engineer but that’s what they, Office of the Building Official (OBO), told me. You cannot even punch the wall,” she said.
Last Monday, engineers of the OBO and General Services Office (GSO) inspected the condominium and confirmed that it was unfit for occupancy and should be demolished.
The P4-million facility that’s prefabricated and can be disassembled is built at Barangay Lorega San Miguel. It was finished on February.
Barangay Lorega San Miguel officials opposed the use of the facility for the night dwellers since they don’t know them.
“It hasn’t been used. You know that was something that suddenly appeared, and it wasn’t very clear who is going to use it. If they (the students) can fit nine in a room as of now maybe we can see what we can. Its temporary,” Osmeña said.
Osmeña said she talked to her husband Tomas, the incoming mayor, about what to do with the condominium and he has asked Ricky Dakay of Dakay Construction to conduct a structural study of the condo free of charge.
