ONE of Central Visayas’s suspected top drug dealers and his bodyguard were reportedly killed Friday night in Las Piñas City.
Cebu City Mayor-elect Tomas Osmeña made the announcement in his official Facebook page at midnight. He said Diaz, a resident of barangay Duljo Fatima, Cebu City was shot dead in an encounter with policemen from Cebu City at Las Piñas City.
“Cebu’s top drug lord, Jaguar, is dead. Neutralized in a Las Piñas raid by Cebu police less than an hour ago. More details to follow,” Osmeña said in his Facebook post.
Diaz’s death happened a few days after he revealed that he stopped dealing in drugs after the arrest of his wife. He even apologized and wanted to surrender to President-elect Rodrigo Duterte.
A few minutes later Osmeña revealed that it was the teams of Regional Intelligence Division-7 chief Supt. Rex Derilo and Regional Special Operations Group-7 chief Supt. George Ylanan who spearheaded the operation.
Osmeña said based on police surveillance, Diaz was still active in the drug trade contrary to his claim that he will retire.
Osmeña said Diaz set up a new base of operations in Rizal and was staying in eight houses.
Osmeña did not elaborate on the circumstances of the police operation.
