Cebu’s Gilbuena, Olmilla eye good showing in Leg 3

CEBUANA duathlete Miscelle Gilbuena will be trying to hit two birds with one stone in the final leg of Pilipinas Duathlon Series today at the Pradera Verde Wake Park in Lubao, Pampanga.

Gilbuena, who hails from Bantayan Island, Cebu, is looking to finally win the women’s tiara after a silver finish in the first two legs of the competition behind Mirasol Abad, her teammate in the Philippine National squad.

The rivalry of Abad and Gilbuena dates back to September of last year here in Cebu when the former outlasted the latter to bring home the National Duathlon Championships women’s crown.

Gilbuena also hopes that she can make a great impression in this race since coaches of the national team will be evaluating the members of the team after the competition.

“My goal is to put up a good performance since this is evaluation time,” Gilbuena said.

Another Cebu bet Joland Olmilla is also looking to put up a good show as he too tries to to remain in the national squad.

Olmilla has a lackluster performance in the second leg, where he finished last in the Men’s Elite division due to an injury.

“I really doubled my efforts in training in preparation for leg 3,” Olmilla said. “My target is to make it to the Top 5.”
