Osmeña to shut down offices

CEBU City Mayor Tomas Osmeña will shut down offices in Cebu City Hall that he deems useless unless their heads can justify their existence.

In last Friday’s press conference, Osmeña said some of the 90 offices in City Hall are not needed and just waste government money.

“Many of them don’t even have minutes of the meetings, they just collect honorarium. No, sorry I don’t need their votes anymore,” Osmeña said.

Among these offices he wants closed are the Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) board and the Cebu City Anti-Indecency Board (CCAIB).

“Citom Board, I could close that, they have to show what they’ve done. Is traffic getting better, what did the board do to make the traffic better? If none, close it. Or maybe just put three people there, that’s enough,” he said.

“Our department heads spend so much time, so they can attend all these to collect their P1,000. They should spend their time in their department,” Osmeña added.

Osmeña said he wanted to know those offices funded under the budget of Accelerated Social Amelioration Program (ASAP).

“The SEF (Special Education Fund) disburses millions but there’s no minutes of their meetings. Like that situation when they give P10 thousand to each teacher from SEF, theres no minutes of that meeting. How did they approve it?” he said.
