SPORTING pixie cut hairstyle and tattoos to play a butch character for an independent film has paid off for seasoned actress Janice de Belen.

Janice was awarded as Best Actress in the recently concluded World Premieres Film Festival Philippines (WPFF) for her role as the dog-breeder Bong of the film “Ringgo: The Dog-Shooter.”

On her Instagram, Janice expressed her gratitude for the recent recognition for her craft.

“On a night I chose to stay home and be with my family, I receive a good news! Thank you WPFF 2016 for the Best Actress recognition. Thank you Ryan Carlos (director) for encouraging me to walk the fine line and do things out of my comfort zone! Thank you for choosing me for the part. Thank you Ricky Lee (screenplay).”

The film “Ringgo: The Dog-Shooter,” also went home the 2nd Best Picture award, Best Actor for Sandino Martin (who played the role of Ringgo) and Best Screenplay for Ricky Lee during the WPFF held at Cinematheque Center in Ermita, Manila.

It will also be screened along with other independent film entries in selected cinemas in Metro Manila.

In an earlier interview with Inquirer Lifestyle, Janice said it was one of the most daring roles she had so far, as she had to do bed scene with another woman, actress Liza Diño.

The movie narrates the story of 16-year-old dog-shooter—a person who assists in dog mating by making sure that, in the process, no sperm is wasted.

The film tells the journey of dog-shooter Ringgo (portrayed by Sandino Martin), dog-breeder Bong (Janice) and doberman Inca.
