STAYING HOME

Cesafi women’s v’ball MVP changes mind, says she’ll remain with SWU

Reigning Cebu Schools Athletics Foundation Inc. (CESAFI) Most Valuable Player (MVP) Floremel “Dij” Rodriguez made a major U-turn and chose to stay with the Southwestern University (SWU) Lady Cobras for her final year.

The 19-year-old Rodriguez, who verbally agreed to join the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA (UPHSD) last May, said she felt it was not right to leave her teammates behind.

“I realized what I did wasn’t right for the team, especially for the coaches. I think I just got too excited because we all know in Manila there are a lot of opportunities,” Rodriguez said.

It has been Rodriguez’s dream to strut her wares in Manila, but she figured out that she will be there soon either way since she is in her fourth year of her degree program in Bachelor of Science in Criminology.

“I’m almost finishing my studies, so I just need to wait a little more time, and I’ll be there (in Manila),” Rodriguez added.

Also, one of her reasons on why she almost transferred was the fear that SWU would remove her degree program in the courses offered. But that plan did not push through as SWU chose to continue its Criminology program.

Meanwhile, SWU mentor Dave Arreza said he was delighted with the development.

“She will be a big help to the team,” Arreza said.
