A woman who allegedly attempted to sneak in shabu inside the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC) was arrested by jail officials yesterday morning.
Romeo Manansala, jail warden, said in a phone interview that the suspect identified as Charlot Miao, 26, of Barangay Ocaña, Carcar City, was about to enter the jail facility when a small pack of suspected shabu was found inside her leggings upon inspection.
Manansala said the woman lied to the female inspecting officer when she was frisked.
“Niingon siya nga kwarta na day ngadto sa nag-inspection niya (She told the inspector that it was money),” he said.
But when the female inspector insisted on checking the item, she found a small pack of shabu wrapped in a paper and tape.
The woman was brought to the jail management’s office for questioning.
She admitted that she was not the one who was supposed to deliver the item to one of the inmates.
Manansala said they will submit the drug to the crime laboratory for verification.
The woman was temporarily detained at the female dormitory of CPDRC. She was scheduled for inquest proceedings on Monday.
Manansala said their tight rules and security measures led to the arrest of Miao.
“Pirmi mi nga istrikto dinhi. Gisayonan siguro siya namo ug gisulayan gyud niya pagsud (We are always strict here. She underestimated us and tried to sneak it in),” he said.
Manansala said this was the first time this year that they confiscated illegal substance from a jail visitor.
Last May or June, Manansala said they were able to confiscate drug paraphernalia, three cellphones and improvised sharp objects during the surprise inspection dubbed as “Greyhound Operation.”
