Business group focuses on MSMEs

The Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and Industry will focus on harnessing the potential of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) as it celebrates the Mandaue Business Month 2016 (MBM 2016) next month.

“We believe that Mandaue, and Cebu in general, has a lot more to offer to the world, and we want to harness and turn those ‘potentials’ into reality by starting with MSMEs,” said Steven Yu of Akromont Marketing Corp., MBM 2016 chairman.

Glenn Soco, MCCI incoming president, said that this year’s MBM 2016 theme, “Bold Moves, New Frontiers,” would also highlight current trends in business, opportunities for entrepreneurs, innovation and creativity, and the business community’s partnership with government.

“We are synchronizing this with the activities and programs of the present administration both local and national,” Soco said in a text message.

Yu said that the MCCI will be staging a business summit where top speakers will teach chamber members to step into the frontline of change with bold moves, creating new frontiers that will help the country attain inclusive growth.

At present, MCCI is composed of more than 300 members, most of which are small and medium businesses.

The MCCI is considered to be the second largest business organization in Cebu, next to the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry with around 700 members.

Following a strategic planning session during MCCI’s 50th year in 2015, Yu said the chamber realized it needed to be more aggressive in moving forward.

Now on its 51st year, he said the theme for this year’s MBM celebration is a reflection of the chamber’s desire to move into new frontiers.

Yu said among the other highlights of MBM 2016 are the chamber’s MSME advocacies such as Men in Business and Women In Need Now Entrepreneurs and Role models (WINNER).

Other activities include Trees Brew Life, Run for ERUF (Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation), and medical missions, among others.
By the end of August, Yu said they will cap everything off with the Grand Chamber Night.
