44 bike riders apprehended for illegal counterflow in Mandaue

AROUND 44 motorcycle drivers were apprehended yesterday in Mandaue City due to counterflowing violations. Four of them had their motorcycles impounded.

Glenn Antigua, director for Traffic Enforcement Agency of Mandaue (TEAM), said the owners were given citation tickets including a policeman from Cebu City.

“No one is exempted from the law,” Antigua said. Aside from the citation tickets, violators were also fined P200. The impounded motorcycles were placed near the Mandaue Sports Complex.

Mandaue City Mayor Gabriel Luis “Luigi” Quisumbing said TEAM will continue to issue citation tickets to instill discipline among the drivers.
“I reiterate the fact that Mandaue (City) is a traffic discipline zone,” Quisumbing told reporters.

Meanwhile, the ordinance on “no-contact policy” will soon be implemented once approved by the city council on final reading. The ordinance has already been passed on the first reading.

The “no contact policy” will help TEAM personnel catch traffic violators through the closed-circuit television cameras.

Antigua said notices would be sent directly to the homes of traffic violators, who would be given seven days to settle their fines.

Antigua said that with the “no contact policy,” motorists can be monitored even without the presence of the traffic enforcers.

Traffic violators caught on the city’s 42 CCTV cameras will be identified and will be fined even without the physical presence of traffic enforcers during the commission of the violation.

“We will just capture the plate number of the vehicle,” Antigua said.
