It was not a typical flag raising ceremony at the Philippine National Police (PNP) headquarters after “PO1 Bato” danced for ranking officials and lifted the often serious mood during the rites on Monday.

PO1 Bato, a mascot and namesake of PNP chief Dir. Gen. Ronald “Bato” de la Rosa, entertained top police officials, esteemed guests and policemen standing at attention with his version of the “Trumpets” and “Running Man” dance challenge.

PO1 Bato, who wears the general office attire uniform of the PNP, is the official mascot of the Police Community Relations Group (PCRG) which is celebrating its 24th founding anniversary.

The PCRG not only featured a dance number from its mascot but also unveiled a puppet version of President Rodrigo Duterte.

The PCRG then presented a puppet show with a title “Tatay Digong and Da Adiks.”

Among the guests were Presidential Communications Secretary Martin Andanar, who addressed the police force for the first time.

In his speech, Andanar lauded the police community relations arm for its efforts to reach out and educate the public on the government’s drive against illegal drugs.

“I am pleased to inform you that President Duterte recognizes your efforts. Just do your job and the President will give his unwavering support,” he said.

He also asked the police force to help Duterte to fulfill his promise to the people of suppressing drugs and criminality in the country within three to six months.
