CEBU CITY, Philippines — Miel Fajardo’s pursuit of a world title shot faces its toughest challenge yet with the announcement of his fight venue: Argentina.

According to a post by Viva Promotions, Miel Fajardo will face Tobias Reyez on April 11, 2026, in Galvez, Santa Paula De Club, Argentina — right in the hometown of his opponent. The bout is an IBF final flyweight world title eliminator, offering Fajardo a chance to move one step closer to securing a world championship opportunity and changing his family’s future.

But the road will not be easy. Beyond facing the skilled Reyes, Fajardo will contend with a highly partisan home crowd cheering for the local favorite, making this arguably the most important fight of his career.

Argentina has historically been a challenging ground for Filipino boxers. In 2012, three-division world champion John Riel Casimero fought hometown star Luis Alberto Lazarte in Mar del Plata for the IBF interim light flyweight title. Casimero won by a 10th-round TKO, but the victory sparked outrage among local fans. Casimero, his trainer Christopher “Ping-Ping” Tepora, and promoter Samson Gello-Ani were physically attacked by enraged spectators, sustaining minor injuries.

Now ranked No. 5 in the IBF flyweight division, Fajardo will face No. 3-ranked Reyes. The winner will become the mandatory No. 1 challenger for Japan’s Masamichi Yabuki, the reigning IBF flyweight champion.

Fajardo’s rise has been steady and impressive. He claimed the IBF Pan Pacific flyweight title during a standout 2025 campaign, capped by a unanimous decision victory over Cebu-based Esneth Domingo. At 25, Fajardo owns a 13–3–2 record with 11 knockouts, while 27-year-old Reyes boasts an 18–1–1 record with 16 knockouts.
