Five municipal employees and a barangay councilor in the towns of Medellin and Moalboal have initially tested positive of illegal drugs use in a recent test conducted by the Cebu Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Office (CPADAO).

Ivy Meca, CPADAO head, said 2 out of 221 municipal employees in Medellin town, northern Cebu, were found positive of illegal drugs use during the drug testing they conducted last Monday.

Meca said that of the 314 municipal employees, barangay officials and tanods in Moalboal town in southern Cebu, four were found positive, including a barangay councilor.

“The results are still subject to confirmatory tests. The tests were requested by the mayors in order for them to implement the drug-free workplace program which is mandated under the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act,” she said.

She said that they had still to conduct drug tests on other local government units in the province.

So far, since last year, she said they had done drug tests in around 60 percent of the all the municipalities and component cities in the province of Cebu.

Meca said that those found positive of illegal drugs use, even after confirmatory tests, would be turned over to the respective mayors and the LGU’s committee on discipline for appropriate disciplinary action.
