AFTER its inaugural edition in Cebu City last June, the “Basura Run”, organized by ultra marathoner and environmentalist Tony Galon, had simultaneous runs in various places last October 1.

Simultaneous runs were held in Cebu City, Minglanilla town, southern Cebu, Santa Cruz, Davao Del Sur and Davao City.

The run was conceptualized to spread awareness of the bad effects of pollution caused by improper disposal of garbage along the streets.

According to Galon, a total of 20 sacks of garbage mostly composed of plastics were collected during the simultaneous runs.

Ten sacks of garbage were collected in Minglanilla where around a hundred runners joined in the five-kilometer race. Four sacks of garbage were collected in Cebu City, four in Santa Cruz and two in Davao City.

The next legs will be held in Manila, Surigao and San Carlos City where some running clubs have already signified their intentions to join.
