JIMBOY Haya of the Omega Boxing Gym will contend for a regional title when he faces Vic Saludar on October 28 in Cagayan de Oro City.
At stake in the fight is Saludar’s World Boxing Organization (WBO) Asia Pacific minimumweight belt.
“We like our chances even if we’re the underdog. Haya has worked hard and deserves this break. We wish him all the best,” said Paulo Castillo, president of Omega Pro Sports International.
Currently on a two-fight winning streak, Haya has nine wins—six of them by knockouts—and two losses, while Saludar sports a 12W-2L-9KOs record.
Ranked number five in the WBO rankings, Saludar won his current belt via a unanimous decision win over Lito Dante last April 2 in his hometown, General Santos City.
Before winning his current belt, Saludar had a chance of snagging a world title but succumbed to a sixth round knockout loss to Japanese Kosei Tanaka in December last year.
The win netted Tanaka the WBO World minimumweight title belt.
